Each year as we enter the holiday season, it's common to commit to connecting with Jesus and each other more deeply, but somehow that commitment often falls away before the new year.
On this first day of advent, read the words in this passage from Matthew and then sit down as a family and commit to going through this season of advent together. Pray about what you want to get out of this season together; write it down so that you can go back to it throughout the next 24 days and remember what you have committed to.
When you have finished this exercise, you will have created a family mission statement that becomes a compass for how you do life together and how you affect others around you.
Perhaps you created a mission statement or chosen a life verse in the past. Reflect on it today. Is it still relevant to the season of life you are in now? Are you taking daily actions to make that life-verse a reality in your life?
