Honor Your Mom With What She Really Wants

May 9, 2015 by Gayla Congdon
I don’t know about your mom but my mom, Virginia Cooper, never wanted anything for Mother’s Day in the way of flowers and cards. All she ever wanted for any special occasion was to see if I was listening to the lesson of what every holiday was about – giving to others and not ourselves. From welcoming strangers to our holiday table or giving up gifts at Christmas so others could have something, our family lived out the value that it was better to give than receive.

My mom has been gone for 16 years and she has a perfect seat in heaven watching to make sure that her kids are living out the lessons she taught us over the years by her example.  And each special occasion in our family is celebrated by honoring her legacy of giving.  Yes, mom, I was listening.

This year Amor wants to give you the opportunity to honor your mother with something from the heart.  Over half of Amor houses are built alongside single moms, like 26 year old Fanny (pictured above with her three year old son, Johan) who chose to raise her son on her own when his father left her when he found out she was pregnant. These moms are struggling to keep their families together.  Wouldn’t it be a great tribute to your mom to gift her with a Mother’s Day card that honors her as well as a mom living in poverty?

No one does more than moms to make the world a better place - give in your mom's honor to help other moms make life better for their kids. And show her that you were, in fact, listening!
