Benaiah son of Jehoiada, a valiant fighter from Kabzeel, performed great exploits. He struck down Moab’s two mightiest warriors. He also went down into a pit on a snowy day and killed a lion.
-2 Samuel 23:20
It’s pretty easy to read over this verse quickly and not quite realize what happened. Benaiah went INTO a pit with a LION. I can’t even fathom the amount of courage it would take to “chase a lion”. If I were in the same situation as Benaiah, I think scripture would have read a little differently. It would instead be a eulogy. “Here lies Alyssa. She came across a lion; tried to outrun it….bless her heart.” The courage and faith Benaiah had is what we should all strive for.
I think I can make a safe assumption that you won’t have to chase or be chased by a real lion during the course of your life. Our “lions” today are the challenges we face in life. For the families we are privileged to work alongside in Mexico and South Africa, that “lion” is poverty. And together we are going to help chase that lion!
This year Amor is hosting the 4th annual Lion Chase 5k fun run/walk and 2nd annual virtual race. All of the funds raised go directly to our Casa de Amor program. Our race will be held this Saturday, September 26th at Tidelands Park on Coronado Island with registration starting at 7 am.
We can't wait to see you this Saturday, September 26th:
Along with snacks, coffee, and water, there will be fun activities for the kids with face painting, a bounce house, and photo booth.
If you’re looking to participate more financially, consider donating to the expense of the race by donating any amount, or our Casa de Amor program as a Foundation Builder for $500, or donating an entire house for $3,500.
Think back to the last family you built alongside. You might not have known it then, but you helped them chase a lion! Sign up today and help us continue to build hope by participating in the 4th annual Lion Chase!
SEE YOU THIS SATURDAY!
