El Niño Update

El Niño is here and so are we. Join us in our efforts to bring relief to affected areas in Baja California

‘I know what I’m doing.  I have it all planned out – plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for.’  Jeremiah 29:11

Our family just south of the border has been hit hard by the devastating rains brought on by El Niño.  Most likely we will not have to rebuild any Amor houses, which is a testament to the work of our groups.  Anyone that has received an Amor home has a better chance of staying warm and dry.

A few months ago, Amor was invited to Mexicali, the capital of Baja California Norte, to attend a planning meeting with the Commission on Family, Religious Affairs and Civil Protection.  High ranking officials from across the state were in attendance to strategize on how to prepare for El Niño.

We were invited because of our reputation of helping thousands of families receive homes over the years.  The state was expecting a high number of families to be displaced and had already committed resources to help.  They asked Amor to be prepared to build homes for those that were the most affected.

How can you help?  Here’s what you can do to impact our families immediately with our message of hope:

*Donate to the El Niño Relief Fund.  www.amor.org/relief  In our ongoing efforts to contribute to the economy of Mexico, we want to purchase as much of what is needed in Mexico.  These funds will be made available to our pastors to purchase food, blankets, tarps, cots and to be used for whatever needs may arise.

*Come on an Amor trip. We could potentially be building with displaced families as early as this spring.  Even if we are not building with a displaced family, the house you build will help keep a family safe and dry.

*Coordinate a blanket and/or jacket drive. New or used clean blankets and jackets will be accepted based on what we are being allowed to import.  Your contact for the drive is LaDonna Barron at 619-662-1200 ext. 121 or ladonna@amor.org.  If you have any questions please feel free to call or email her.

This is not our first El Niño.  In the last 35 years we have been called on by Mexico as the go-to organization because they know they can count on us – “We know what we are doing, we have it all planned out, plans to take care of you, not abandon you with plans to give you the future you hope for!”  This is Amor Ministries.

Join us in our El Niño Relief.  And together we can manifest the justice, kindness and humility of Jesus.
